A mirror is the cheapest square footage you’ll ever add to a room. The trick is placement, not size alone.
Put it opposite a window. A mirror facing natural light bounces daylight deeper into the room and gives you a view to look at instead of a wall. In a north-facing bathroom, this makes a noticeable difference.
Go wall-to-wall over the vanity. A full-width mirror above a double vanity reads as one clean plane, where two separate mirrors chop the wall into segments. In a narrow powder room, extending the mirror right to the corners removes the visual edges that make a space feel boxed in.
Take it higher than you think. Ending a mirror at standard height draws the eye down. Running it closer to the ceiling lifts the whole room.
Consider the finish. Options that change the feel of a space:
- Polished or bevelled edges for a framed look without a frame
- Antique or smoked glass for warmth in dining rooms and bar areas
- Mirrored walls in gyms, studios and basement rec rooms
- Custom cut-outs for sconces, outlets and medicine cabinets
A note on installation: large mirrors are heavy and need proper adhesive and mechanical support on the right substrate. A mirror that lets go of a wall is a serious hazard. This is worth having done properly.
